Foster Academic and Emotional Growth in Students

Join our team at PSI as a School Counselor and play a critical role in guiding students through their academic journeys and personal challenges. This vital position allows you to directly impact the educational and emotional development of students by providing strategic counseling services, support, and advocacy within a dynamic school environment.

A Day in the Life:

  • Morning Review and Preparation: Begin your day with teachers about students who may need additional support, planning interventions tailored to their specific needs.  

  • Individual Counseling Sessions: Conduct scheduled one-on-one counseling sessions to help students cope with emotional, social, or academic challenges, providing them with tools and strategies to manage stress and improve their school performance. 

  • Development of Programs: Design and implement effective programs that address common student issues such as bullying, peer pressure, and anxiety, promoting a positive and inclusive school culture.

  • Collaboration with Parents and Teachers: Meet with parents and teachers to discuss students’ progress and collaborate on strategies to support students at home and in school. 

Responsibilities:

  • Student Counseling: Provide comprehensive counseling services addressing academic, career, and personal/social development.

  • Program Development: Create and coordinate implementation of school-wide programs that support mental health, academic skills, and career planning.

  • Educational and Career Planning: Assist students in understanding their educational and career options and making informed decisions. 

  • Crisis Intervention: Act as a first responder in crisis situations involving students, providing immediate counseling and follow-up support.

  • Documentation and Reporting: Document session notes, update student records, and prepare for upcoming presentations or workshops. 

  • Professional Collaboration: Work closely with school personnel and families to create a supportive network that facilitates the growth and success of all students.

  • Continuous Learning: Engage in professional development to remain current on best practices in school counseling and adolescent development. 

 

Requirements:

  • Educational Background: Master’s degree in School Counseling, Educational Psychology, or a related field.

  • Certification: Valid state certification/licensure as a School Counselor.

  • Experience: Demonstrated experience in counseling with a strong understanding of the academic and social pressures facing today’s youth.  

  • Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional communication and empathetic skills to effectively engage with students, parents, and school staff.

  • Ethical Practice: A firm commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to the highest ethical standards.
