Join PSI as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant and play a key role in enhancing the educational and daily living experiences of students. Working under the supervision of licensed Occupational Therapists, you will help implement therapeutic interventions designed to improve students’ abilities to perform daily activities and succeed in their educational environment.

A Day in the Life:

  • Session Preparation: Begin your day by organizing therapy materials and setting up the therapy space, ensuring everything is ready for the students’ sessions.

  • Therapy Assistance: Assist Occupational Therapists in delivering therapy sessions that focus on improving students’ fine motor skills, sensory processing abilities, and practical life skills.

  • Student Engagement: Actively engage with students during therapy sessions, providing support and encouragement as they work through various exercises and activities.

  • Progress Documentation: Carefully document each student’s progress during therapy sessions, providing valuable feedback to the Occupational Therapist for ongoing treatment planning.

  • Equipment Maintenance: Manage and maintain therapy equipment and resources, ensuring they are in good condition and ready for use.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support Therapeutic Interventions: Provide hands-on assistance during occupational therapy sessions, following plans developed by the Occupational Therapist.

  • Facilitate Skill Development: Help students develop the skills needed for daily living and academic tasks, using therapeutic activities and exercises.

  • Collaboration with Educational Staff: Work closely with teachers and other school personnel to integrate occupational therapy goals into the classroom and school activities.

  • Educate and Support Families: Assist in educating families on how to support their children’s therapeutic goals at home, enhancing overall therapy effectiveness.

  • Professional Growth: Participate in ongoing training and professional development to maintain competency and stay informed about the latest occupational therapy practices.

 

Requirements:

  • Educational Background: Associate’s degree or higher in Occupational Therapy Assisting from an accredited program.

  • Certification: Certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).

  • Licensure: Valid state license to practice as a COTA.

  • Experience: Experience in pediatric or school-based settings is preferred, demonstrating a strong ability to work effectively with children.

  • Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to follow directions and work collaboratively within a therapy team.
