Bridge Communication Gaps and Enhance Accessibility in Education

Join PSI as a Translator and play a vital role in facilitating clear and effective communication across language barriers. This position is crucial in translating educational materials, communications, and live discussions, ensuring that all students and their families can fully participate in and benefit from the educational environment.

A Day in the Life:

  • Translation Preparation: Start your day by reviewing the materials or schedules for classes, meetings, or events that require translation services.

  • Document Translation: Translate educational documents, parental notifications, and other written materials from English into target languages and vice versa, maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the content.

  • Live Translation: Provide real-time translation during parent-teacher conferences, school meetings, and special events, ensuring that non-English speaking parents and students understand and are engaged in the discussions.

  • Quality Assurance: Review and edit translated materials to ensure clarity, accuracy, and cultural appropriateness.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with educators, administrators, and other staff to understand the context and specific requirements for each translation task.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Written Translation: Accurately translate written materials, including educational content, correspondence, and administrative documents, into designated languages.

  • Oral Interpretation: Offer simultaneous or consecutive interpretation services during school events, meetings, and as needed in classroom settings.

  • Cultural Sensitivity: Ensure that translations are not only linguistically accurate but also culturally appropriate and sensitive to the nuances of the target language.

  • Communication Facilitation: Act as a linguistic bridge between staff and non-English speaking members of the school community, enhancing understanding and participation.

  • Resource Development: Assist in the development of bilingual resources to support the school’s language access policies and multicultural initiatives.

 

Requirements:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, or a related field.

  • Language Proficiency: High proficiency in English and at least one other language, with both written and verbal fluency. 

  • Experience: Experience in translation and interpretation, preferably in an educational setting or a related field.

  • Skills: Strong linguistic skills, with attention to detail and the ability to work under tight deadlines.

  • Professionalism: A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards in handling sensitive information.
