Founded by a School Psychologist, for over 45 years, PSI has been a pioneering force in Educational Support Services and School Health Programs. Our journey began when a visionary administrator of the Cleveland Diocesan Schools joined forces with a group of innovative school psychologists from Kent State University. This collaboration birthed PSI, driven by “outside-the-box” thinking, to address the diverse needs of students across the Cleveland Diocesan schools.
Since then, PSI has evolved into a comprehensive provider, committed to nurturing the “whole child.” Today, our mission remains unwavering: to deliver top-tier educational services efficiently, fostering academic growth, positive attitudes, and healthy behaviors among students. With a proud track record of serving hundreds of thousands of students statewide, PSI continues to be at the forefront of educational excellence.
In late 2023, PSI forged a transformative partnership with ESS, further expanding our reach to meet the evolving needs of students nationwide. Through this collaboration, PSI reaffirms its dedication to enhancing the educational journey for every student, every day.
By 1981, PSI expanded its offerings, responding to client needs with additional services such as speech therapy, school health, and various special education services, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and ESL instruction. This growth extended into the early 1980s, as PSI began serving both non-public and public schools, helping establish state-approved special education programs that continue to support students today.
As the new millennium dawned, PSI continued to evolve, introducing programs like China-Link, social-emotional learning, and foreign language instruction. A national team of experts was assembled to offer professional development, ensuring that educators received the training and support needed to thrive. PSI's reach even extended internationally, with partnerships in Poland, reflecting a global vision for educational excellence. Programs like Title services and preventive initiatives, including early implementations of the Response to Intervention (RTI) model, demonstrated PSI's forward-thinking approach.
In 2024, PSI proudly expanded its educational services by incorporating the Academic Staffing Organization into the PSI family. This addition has strengthened our ability to provide comprehensive educational support, ensuring that schools nationwide have access to top-tier staff and resources to foster student success.

It all began in 1977 when PSI was born from a collaboration between the Cleveland Catholic Diocese and a team of Kent State University professors and students. Originally focused on school psychology, PSI quickly established itself as a leader in comprehensive psychological services in Northeast Ohio.
The 1990s marked a new era for PSI, as Ohio's Community Schools legislation opened doors to serve charter schools. This expansion didn't stop at state lines; PSI's reputation for excellence led to partnerships with charter schools across Michigan, Colorado, Florida, and Arizona. During this time, PSI also began providing health services to major corporations like General Electric and Rockwell International, showcasing its versatility and commitment to health and education.
In 2023, PSI entered an exciting new chapter as part of ESS, expanding its services nationwide. This acquisition enhances the benefits, wages, and quality of services PSI provides, all while maintaining a budget-conscious approach that benefits schools and students alike.
Today, after 47 years, PSI thrives with new, visionary management, a dedicated leadership team, and a passionate group of school-based professionals. PSI is more than just a service provider; it's a community committed to empowering education and enriching the lives of tens of thousands of children every year. The journey continues, and PSI is only getting started!
