A Day in the Life:

  • Assessment and Evaluation: Begin your day by conducting comprehensive speech and language evaluations for bilingual students, using culturally and linguistically appropriate assessment tools.

  • Therapeutic Interventions: Deliver targeted therapy sessions in both English and the students’ native languages, addressing specific communication disorders and enhancing overall language proficiency.

  • Collaboration with Educators: Work closely with classroom teachers and other educational professionals to integrate speech therapy goals into the students’ broader educational plans.

  • Family Engagement: Communicate regularly with families to provide updates on their children’s progress and to offer strategies to support language development at home.

  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed records of assessments, therapy sessions, and progress reports, ensuring compliance with school policies and professional standards.

Requirements:

  • Educational Background: Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or a closely related field.

  • Certification: ASHA Certification and state licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.

  • Language Skills: Proficiency in English and at least one other language, with a strong understanding of the linguistic features of both.

  • Experience: Experience working with bilingual populations, with a demonstrated ability to manage diverse caseloads effectively.

  • Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt interventions to suit individual student needs.
