A Day in the Life:

  • Curriculum Planning: Start your day by preparing lesson plans that incorporate engaging and effective methods to teach English reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.

  • Instructional Delivery: Conduct classes that are tailored to the needs of ELL students, using a variety of teaching techniques to accommodate different learning styles and cultural backgrounds.

  • Student Assessment: Assess students’ progress in English language proficiency through formal and informal assessments, adjusting instructional methods to meet individual learning needs.

  • Collaboration with Teachers: Work closely with other teachers to support ELL students’ understanding in all subject areas, ensuring they can apply their language skills across the curriculum.

  • Parent Engagement: Communicate regularly with parents to inform them of their child’s progress and provide strategies they can use at home to support their child’s language development.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Language Instruction: Deliver targeted English language lessons to help students improve their grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and overall communication skills.

  • Cultural Sensitivity: Foster an inclusive classroom environment that respects and incorporates students’ cultural backgrounds and experiences.

  • Resource Development: Develop and utilize educational materials and resources that aid in language acquisition and complement students’ diverse learning needs.

  • Professional Collaboration: Collaborate with school staff to integrate language learning goals with educational objectives, enhancing overall student achievement.

  • Continual Learning and Development: Stay abreast of the latest pedagogical strategies in ELL education through ongoing professional development.

 

Requirements:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), Linguistics, or a related field.

  • Certification: Appropriate state certification in ELL/ESL education.

  • Experience: Prior teaching experience with ELL populations is highly desirable, demonstrating a capacity to effectively address language barriers in an educational setting.

  • Skills: Excellent communication and instructional skills, with a strong ability to engage and motivate students.

  • Cultural Competence: Sensitivity to and understanding of the cultural and linguistic diversity of the student population.
