A Day in the Life:

  • Class Preparation: Start your day by setting up your classroom, ensuring that all materials are tailored to meet the specific needs of your students.

  • Individualized Instruction: Conduct lessons that are designed to meet the varied learning needs and styles of your students, using differentiated teaching techniques to engage and empower each student.

  • Collaborative Planning: Work closely with general education teachers, therapists, and families to develop comprehensive and cohesive educational plans that integrate academic goals with therapeutic and behavioral strategies.

  • Progress Monitoring: Assess and document the academic and developmental progress of your students, adjusting instructional strategies and goals as necessary to optimize learning outcomes.

  • Parent and Staff Communications: End your day by communicating with parents and other staff members about students’ progress, upcoming events, and any concerns, ensuring a collaborative approach to each student’s education.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development: Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) that meet the needs of students with disabilities, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Teaching and Instruction: Deliver engaging and effective lessons using various teaching methods that accommodate the diverse needs of special education students.

  • Behavioral Support: Implement and manage classroom behavior techniques that provide a safe and structured learning environment.

  • Team Collaboration: Participate in multidisciplinary teams to discuss and optimize educational strategies for students, contributing to a holistic approach to special education.

  • Professional Development: Engage in ongoing education and training to remain current on best practices in special education and related legal requirements.

 

Requirements:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field.

  • Certification: Valid teaching certification in Special Education.

  • Experience: Prior experience in special education teaching, with a proven track record of developing effective educational programs for students with diverse needs.

  • Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to adapt teaching methods to each student’s unique needs.

  • Professionalism: A commitment to ethical teaching practices and a dedication to fostering a positive and inclusive educational environment.
