Support Student Health and Wellness in a School Environment

Join PSI as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and play a pivotal role in maintaining and promoting the health of students within the school setting. This position involves providing basic medical care, supporting health education, and ensuring that the school environment supports the well-being of all students.

A Day in the Life:

  • Health Monitoring: Start your day by checking on students with chronic conditions, administering medications, and performing routine health checks.

  • Medical Care: Provide first aid and manage minor injuries or illnesses that occur during the school day. Assist in managing students’ ongoing health needs according to their health plans.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate health records for all students, documenting care provided, observations, and any changes in a student’s health status.

  • Health Promotion: Participate in health education programs, teaching students about topics such as hygiene, nutrition, and physical fitness.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with registered nurses, school staff, and parents to coordinate care and ensure that all students have the support they need to succeed academically.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Direct Nursing Care: Provide nursing care under the supervision of a registered nurse or school physician, according to the established protocols and individual health plans.

  • Health Assessments: Conduct basic health assessments to monitor and manage student health concerns.

  • Emergency Response: Act as a first responder in the event of student health emergencies, providing immediate care and coordinating further medical response if necessary.

  • Health Education: Assist in developing and delivering health education programs that address the needs of the student population.

  • Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with parents, teachers, and administrative staff regarding student health issues and school health policies.

 

Requirements:

  • Educational Background: Completion of an accredited practical nursing program.

  • Licensure: Must hold a current LPN license in the state where the school is located.

  • Experience: Previous experience in pediatric, community health, or school nursing is preferred.

  • Skills: Strong clinical skills, particularly in pediatric nursing, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to respond effectively to emergencies.

  • Professionalism: A commitment to professional development and adherence to ethical nursing practices.
