A Day in the Life:

  • Morning Review: Start your day by reviewing student evaluations and therapy plans, preparing for individual and group sessions.

  • Therapeutic Interventions: Conduct therapy sessions aimed at enhancing students’ fine motor skills, sensory processing abilities, and overall functional independence.

  • Collaborative Strategy Sessions: Work closely with teachers, parents, and other therapists to integrate occupational therapy goals with educational objectives, ensuring a cohesive approach to student development.

  • Adaptive Techniques Implementation: Recommend and implement adaptive equipment or techniques to assist students in classrooms and other school settings, enhancing their learning experiences and participation.

  • Documentation and Reporting: End your day by documenting student progress, updating therapy plans, and preparing for upcoming IEP meetings or parent consultations..

 

Responsibilities:

  • Student Assessment: Evaluate students’ functional abilities and develop individualized intervention plans to address specific needs.

  • Therapy Delivery: Provide direct occupational therapy services that focus on improving students’ skills necessary for performing daily activities and succeeding academically.

  • Educational Collaboration: Collaborate with educational staff to create and maintain an optimal learning environment that accommodates students’ therapeutic needs.

  • Parent and Staff Education: Educate parents and school staff on strategies to support students’ occupational therapy goals at home and in school.

  • Professional Development: Stay updated on the latest occupational therapy techniques and educational strategies through continuous professional development.

 

Requirements:

  • Educational Background: Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.

  • Licensure: Current state licensure as an Occupational Therapist.

  • Experience: Prior experience in pediatric, school-based, or related settings is highly desirable.

  • Skills: Proficiency in assessing student needs and developing creative therapy interventions. Strong communication skills for effective collaboration and patient education.

  • Professionalism: A strong commitment to ethical practice and a dedication to promoting student privacy and dignity.
